About the Race

What is the Swedish Heritage Run?

A multi-stage endurance adventure covering 200+ miles through Sweden's historic paths and wilderness, planned for 2028.

When will the race take place?

We're targeting 2028. Exact dates will be confirmed as the course and logistics are finalised. Newsletter subscribers hear first.

Where in Sweden does it happen?

The exact location is intentionally kept secret to protect the trails and preserve the sense of discovery for runners.

Are international runners welcome?

Absolutely. We welcome runners from around the world. Confirmed participants receive arrival recommendations, and we connect runners travelling from the same regions where possible.

Registration

How do I register?

Registration of interest is open now. Click 'Register Interest' anywhere on the site to join the waitlist. Confirmed runners are invited from this list.

Is there a fee at this stage?

No. Registering interest is free. A formal entry fee will be communicated when official registration opens.

How are participants selected?

We assess each applicant individually based on multi-day endurance experience and alignment with the event's heritage and leave-no-trace ethos.

Training & Eligibility

What level of runner is this for?

Expert-level. Multi-day or ultra-distance trail experience is strongly recommended.

Will training guidance be provided?

Yes. Confirmed runners receive a structured prep plan, gear list and recommendations leading up to race week.

What gear do I need to bring?

A mandatory kit list is shared with confirmed runners and is designed for Nordic conditions: trail shoes, weatherproof layers, headlamp, hydration system and a small daypack. Your main duffle is transported between camps.

Is there a cutoff time per stage?

Yes. Each stage has a generous but firm cutoff designed to keep runners safe and the schedule sustainable. Cutoffs are communicated well in advance and depend on terrain and distance.

Travel & Logistics

How do I get there?

Travel logistics, transfer details and recommended arrival points will be sent to confirmed runners well in advance.

Where do we sleep?

A mix of shared base camps, heritage lodges and tented nights out on the route. A personal tent is part of the mandatory kit, since some stages finish at wilder spots without indoor shelter. Everything else between stages is organised for you.

Are meals included?

Breakfast is provided each morning, traditional Swedish 'havregrynsgröt' (oatmeal porridge) to set you up for the day. On course, there may be stops at certain locations, but stages are primarily self-supported, so plan your own on-trail nutrition as part of the mandatory kit. In the evenings our ambition is to bring in a rotation of local food trucks at base camp.

Can I bring a support crew?

Yes, you're welcome to bring a crew, but it's not required. The event is fully supported by our own team, so a personal crew isn't necessary to complete the race. Friends and family who want to follow the journey are welcome at designated public points and the post-race gathering. Details are shared with confirmed runners.

What's the weather like?

Nordic summer weather is variable: sunny and warm one day, cool and rainy the next. The mandatory kit list is designed to keep you comfortable across the full range of likely conditions.

The Course

What's the terrain like?

Forest singletrack, parish and country roads, paths along rivers and inland lakes, runestone country and heritage village lanes. The route shifts under your feet stage by stage. Sometimes technical, often rolling, always changing.

Why is the route secret?

Only for now, while we're finalising the route. We're still walking sections, testing alternatives and making sure each stage does justice to the land and the heritage along it. Once it's locked in, confirmed runners get the full route well ahead of race day.

What if I get injured mid-race?

Medical professionals are on-call throughout the event with a roaming medic vehicle and trained staff at aid stations. If you can't continue, you'll be supported off the course safely and welcomed back at base camp.

Still Have Questions?
